ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos have officially released tight end Greg Dulcich, marking the conclusion of his underwhelming stint in the team.
Dulcich’s time with the Broncos has been plagued by recurring hamstring issues in his first two seasons. In his rookie year, he managed to record 33 receptions for 411 yards and secured two touchdowns. However, his performance diminished significantly in the following year, as he only contributed three catches for a brief 25 yards in two games. This current season saw him register five receptions totaling just 28 yards before he was inactive for the last eight games.
During training camp, there was hope that Dulcich could become the impactful player the Broncos anticipated when they selected him in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of UCLA. Nevertheless, by Week 5 of the current season, he was surpassed on the depth chart by fellow tight end Lucas Kroll.
Recently, head coach Sean Payton acknowledged that Dulcich had been handling his reduced role positively and had shown improvements during practice. Nonetheless, he had not reached the performance levels of Kroll, Adam Trautman, and Nate Adkins, which led to his exclusion from the active roster on game days.
With Dulcich no longer on the team, the Broncos now have an opportunity to reinstate either linebacker Drew Sanders, who is recovering from an Achilles tendon injury, or receiver Josh Reynolds, who has been dealing with a finger issue, back onto the 53-man roster this week.
