LAIE, Hawaii — In an impressive display of skill, Ariadna Termis contributed eight of her total 13 points in the decisive fourth quarter, leading Georgia Tech to a 74-58 victory over the 21st-ranked Oregon at the Hawaii North Shore Showcase on Monday evening.

Zoesha Smith supported the team’s effort with 12 points, alongside two blocks and two steals, while Ines Noguera notched 11 points, seven assists, and three steals for the Yellow Jackets. Tonie Morgan also had a strong performance, finishing with 10 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

Georgia Tech dominated the boards, securing 53 rebounds compared to Oregon’s 31, including a remarkable 23-8 advantage on offensive rebounds. This victory marks an excellent start for Georgia Tech, their best since winning their first six games of the 2017-18 season.

Early in the fourth quarter, Termis and Noguera each sank consecutive three-pointers, followed by layups from Noguera and Kara Dunn that ignited a 10-0 surge, extending Georgia Tech’s lead to 56-43 with eight minutes remaining. Termis continued her hot streak with another three-pointer, complemented by Chazadi White’s seven points during a 14-4 stretch, pushing the Yellow Jackets’ lead to 21 points with just 2:19 on the clock.

Deja Kelly was Oregon’s standout performer, scoring 10 points in the game.

Georgia Tech established an early advantage with a 14-2 run in the first quarter, taking a 16-7 lead when Kayla Blackshear scored a layup with 2:36 remaining in that period. However, they faced a challenge as they missed their last six attempts of the first quarter. Following a layup by Morgan at the start of the second quarter, the team struggled further, missing nine consecutive shots. This lapse allowed Oregon to rally back, scoring 14 of the next 18 points to take a one-point lead with 2:15 left in the first half, but Georgia Tech managed to lead 29-27 at the halftime break.

As the third quarter progressed, Smith’s scoring in the paint helped the Yellow Jackets extend their lead to eight points with 2:55 left. Nevertheless, Kelly responded quickly with a layup, and her fast-break layup at the end of the quarter reduced Oregon’s deficit to 46-43.

Georgia Tech’s impressive performance showcased their potential, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
