JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Trevor Lawrence, the quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, is set to participate in practice on Monday, as confirmed by head coach Doug Pederson.
Lawrence has been sidelined for the last two matches due to a sprained left shoulder, which contributed to losses against both Minnesota and Detroit. Thanks to the bye week, he was able to take advantage of additional rest. This week, the Jaguars (2-9) will face the Houston Texans (7-5), who are leading the AFC South. A win is crucial for Jacksonville as they aim to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Pederson noted that Lawrence is starting to feel better, and the team’s coaching staff will have a clearer picture of his availability for the upcoming game after Wednesday’s practice session.
The injury occurred during a scramble against Philadelphia on November 3, when Lawrence opted to go for a head-first plunge rather than sliding, resulting in a hard hit from linebacker Zack Baun. Since then, while he has participated in a limited capacity during practice, he has not been active for the prior two games.
Meanwhile, Mac Jones took over as the starting quarterback but had a challenging outing, completing just 31 of 51 passes for a total of 249 yards without scoring any touchdowns, and he threw three interceptions while being sacked four times.
Lawrence, who was the number one overall pick in the 2021 draft, has faced injuries throughout the season. It was the first time in his professional career that he missed a game in 2023 due to a sprained right shoulder during Week 16. Additionally, he has had to sit out practice for various injuries, including a sprained left knee in Week 6, a right ankle sprain in Week 13, and a concussion in Week 15.
