MANCHESTER, England — Renowned British singer Ed Sheeran has expressed regret to Ruben Amorim after unintentionally disrupting the new Manchester United head coach during a live interview.

Amorim was engaged in a discussion with Sky Sports following United’s recent match, which ended in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich on Sunday. At that moment, Sheeran approached to greet analyst Jamie Redknapp, leading to a temporary halt in the live interview. Redknapp then invited Sheeran to “come and say hello in a minute.”

Sheeran is an avid Ipswich Town supporter and has a minority ownership in the team. He was seen celebrating after Ipswich’s equalizer, scored by Omari Hutchinson, during the match held at Portman Road.

On Monday, Sheeran took to his Instagram account to apologize, stating, “Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, didn’t actually realize he was being interviewed at the time, was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie.”

Redknapp later shared images on Instagram featuring Sheeran in the Sky studio alongside analysts Roy Keane and Izzy Christiansen, in addition to presenter Kelly Cates.

This match marked Amorim’s debut as Manchester United’s head coach, starting with a thrilling moment when Marcus Rashford scored just two minutes in. However, the game concluded with both teams earning a point after Hutchinson’s goal, assisted by a deflection.

Earlier, Ipswich CEO Mark Ashton had mentioned that Sheeran played a significant role in helping the club acquire a new player during the off-season, taking a Zoom call to discuss it right before he performed with Taylor Swift.
