RIVERSIDE, Calif.
In a decisive matchup on Sunday night, UC Riverside triumphed over Alcorn State with a score of 69-52, thanks in large part to an impressive performance by Barrington Hargress, who contributed 20 points to the Highlanders’ victory.
Hargress showcased his shooting skills, completing 6 of 13 attempts from the field, while also excelling from distance with 4 out of 9 shots made from beyond the arc. He rounded out his scoring by hitting 4 of 5 from the free-throw line, helping the Highlanders improve their record to 4-3.
Additionally, Nate Pickens added 14 points for Riverside, making 3 of 8 field goals, including 3 for 7 from three-point range, and hitting 5 of 7 from the charity stripe. Isaiah Moses also contributed to the score, going 4 of 7 from the field and finishing the game with nine points, including one 3-pointer in four attempts.
On the other side of the court, Alcorn State struggled to find their rhythm, with Omari Hamilton leading the Braves (0-7) with 16 points. Djahi Binet put forth a notable effort as well, securing a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Davian Williams chipped in with five points, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.
This loss marked the seventh consecutive defeat for the Braves, who, despite ending last season with a nine-game winning streak, have now entered a rough patch, having lost eight games in a row since their setback against Alabama A&M in the quarterfinals of the 2024 SWAC Tournament.
As UC Riverside continues their campaign, they will look to build on this solid victory, while Alcorn State seeks to break their losing streak and regain their momentum in upcoming games.
