FORT MYERS, Fla. — Zavian McLean was the standout player for FGCU, contributing 18 points as the Eagles narrowly defeated Florida International 60-59 on Sunday. Michael Duax played a crucial role in sealing the win with a free throw made just 21 seconds before the game ended.
McLean showcased impressive shooting, hitting 7 of 12 attempts overall and going 2 for 5 from three-point range for FGCU, which improved to a 2-5 record. He was supported by Rahmir Barno, who added 11 points along with five assists and three steals, while Jevin Muniz contributed nine points, demonstrating efficiency by making all five of his free throws despite shooting only 2 of 7 from the field.
On the other side, the Panthers, also at 2-5, saw Jayden Brewer lead their scoring effort with 18 points and eight rebounds. Jonathan Aybar supported his team with 12 points, and Dashon Gittens contributed seven points and eight rebounds to the team’s performance.
In the first half, McLean was particularly effective, scoring 14 points before the break, which saw FGCU trailing slightly at 30-29. Barno emerged as the top scorer for the Eagles in the second half, contributing nine points, as FGCU managed to outscore Florida International by two points during that period, ultimately walking away with the one-point victory.
