TULSA, Okla. — On Sunday, Tulsa University decided to part ways with football coach Kevin Wilson, naming wide receivers coach Ryan Switzer as the interim coach for the rest of the season.
The Golden Hurricane faced a tough defeat against South Florida on Saturday, with a final score of 63-30, bringing their season record to 3-8. This decision marks the end of Wilson’s two-year stint during which he compiled a record of 7-16, and a disappointing 3-12 in the American Athletic Conference.
Athletic director Justin Moore expressed the urgency of the situation by stating, “With the rapidly evolving landscape of college athletics, we understand the need to position our football program and athletic department for future success.” He emphasized the goals of the program, highlighting aspirations to participate in bowl games each season, contend for conference championships, and foster a football culture that everyone associated with the Golden Hurricane can take pride in.
Before his time at Tulsa, Wilson had a six-year run as head coach at Indiana, where he held a record of 26-47 from 2011 to 2016. Following his tenure at Indiana, he joined the coaching staff at Ohio State under renowned coach Urban Meyer and continued to serve under Meyer’s successor, Ryan Day, before taking the head coaching job at Tulsa.
