ORONO, Maine — In a commanding performance on Sunday, Christopher Mantis contributed significantly to the University of Maine’s victory over Holy Cross, scoring 17 points off the bench in an impressive 80-55 win.
Mantis also grabbed five rebounds for the Black Bears, who improved their record to 3-3. Quion Burns was another key player, posting 16 points along with eight rebounds, while AJ Lopez added 14 points, shooting 6 of 13 from the floor, including 2 of 6 from beyond the arc.
On the other side, Holy Cross, now at 4-3, saw DeAndre Williams lead the scoring with 12 points. Joe Nugent added 11, and Caleb Kenney contributed 10 points to the effort.
The Black Bears seized the lead with 11:42 remaining in the first half and maintained it throughout the game. They went into halftime with a 35-26 advantage, fueled by Burns, who scored nine points in the first half.
In the second half, Maine significantly pulled away with a striking 19-3 run, increasing their lead from seven points to a substantial 23-point margin. Lopez excelled in the second half, leading his team with 12 points as they outscored the Crusaders by 16 points in the final period.
Looking ahead, both teams have games scheduled for Friday. Maine will face Elon, while Holy Cross will travel to compete against Virginia.
