SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — In a tragic incident that unfolded early Sunday morning, assailants targeted a bar in the southeastern region of Mexico, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and leaving at least five others injured, as reported by local news sources.
The violent event occurred in Tabasco, a coastal province currently grappling with an upswing in criminal activity and violence. Omar García Harfuch, the Secretary of Public Safety, announced on social media platform X that the assault took place in Villahermosa. He indicated that federal and local law enforcement agencies are collaborating on the investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains uncertain. Disturbing footage shared on social media depicted patrons fleeing the scene, while some of those who survived remained behind to assist the injured until police arrived.
This shooting marks yet another episode of violence as the newly elected president faces significant security challenges. Just earlier this month, a similar attack occurred in a bar located in central Mexico, where gunmen opened fire and killed ten people, injuring thirteen others. This alarming incident took place in Querétaro, a historic city that had previously enjoyed relative peace compared to neighboring states, such as Guerrero, which have been plagued by violence for years.
