HATTIESBURG, Miss.
— In a decisive victory on Saturday, the South Alabama Jaguars triumphed over Southern Miss with a score of 35-14. Quarterback Gio Lopez played a pivotal role in the win by throwing three touchdown passes, while Fluff Bothwell significantly contributed with a rushing total of 104 yards.
The game started with Southern Miss taking an early lead of 8-0, but South Alabama quickly turned the tables. In the second quarter, Lopez connected for two touchdown passes, enabling the Jaguars to pull ahead and secure a 14-11 advantage by halftime.
The momentum continued in the third quarter when Lopez found Jamaal Pritchett for a 40-yard touchdown reception. Meanwhile, Wesley Miller added to the score by returning an interception 57 yards for another touchdown, increasing the Jaguars’ lead to 28-11. Following that, Bothwell capped off the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
For Southern Miss, the team managed to score a touchdown from a 7-yard pass by Tate Rodemaker to Davis Dalton, which included a successful two-point conversion in the first quarter. Connor Gibbs also made his mark with two field goals, one of which was a remarkable 59-yarder right as the first half came to a close.
In terms of individual performances, Lopez completed 15 of his 24 passes for a total of 193 yards. Pritchett was a key target in the offense, having made eight receptions that accounted for 102 yards. On the other side, Rodrigues Clark led the way for the Golden Eagles with a commendable rushing performance, recording 115 yards.
