DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In an impressive display of skill, Tyler McGhie scored 27 points, leading UC San Diego to a dominant 80-45 victory over Toledo in the Boardwalk Battle championship held on Saturday night.
McGhie had an outstanding shooting performance, hitting 10 of his 16 attempts, including a remarkable 7 out of 11 from three-point range, showcasing his perimeter shooting prowess. Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones contributed significantly with 19 points and secured five rebounds, while Hayden Gray added 10 points with 4 of 7 shooting, including two successful three-pointers.
On the other end, Toledo’s offense was led by Seth Hubbard and Sonny Wilson, both finishing the game with 10 points each. Javan Simmons chipped in with seven points as well. Unfortunately for the Rockets, this defeat snapped their five-game winning streak.
The Tritons took control of the game with 8:50 remaining in the first half and maintained their lead throughout. McGhie’s scoring prowess was evident early, as he tallied 16 points in the first half alone, propelling his team to a 34-25 advantage by halftime. In the second half, UCSD significantly widened the gap, extending their lead to 45-25 thanks to an impressive 11-0 scoring run. McGhie continued to shine, adding 11 points in the second half to help seal the victory for UC San Diego.
