PORTLAND, Ore. — In an impressive display of athletic prowess, Quincy Craig led the Portland State Vikings to a commanding 45-13 victory over Northern Colorado in their season finale on Saturday, rushing for 137 yards and contributing two touchdowns.
The Vikings established themselves early with both Craig and Deion Thompson executing short touchdown runs that propelled them to a 17-7 lead at halftime. Following the break, Christian Grubb extended the Vikings’ lead with an 18-yard touchdown run, and Craig added to the score with a 15-yard dash into the end zone, increasing their advantage to 31-7 as the fourth quarter approached.
Portland State continued to dominate, with Elias Spence and Jacques Badolato-Birdsell each finishing off drives with 4-yard and 10-yard touchdown runs, respectively, solidifying the Vikings’ victory.
On the other hand, the Bears managed to score their first touchdown in the second quarter when David Afari rushed for 8 yards. Northern Colorado (1-11, 1-7 Big Sky Conference) ended the season with a five-game losing streak. Kaiden Box found Carver Cheeks for a 35-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome. The Bears’ win over Weber State earlier in the season remains their only triumph in two years under the leadership of former BYU assistant Ed Lamb, accumulating a dismal record of 1-21 during that span.
For Portland State, quarterback Dante Chachere had a successful outing, completing 14 of 19 pass attempts for 150 yards and one interception, while also contributing 80 rushing yards from seven carries. In comparison, Northern Colorado’s Box finished the game with 14 completions on 28 attempts for 221 yards, and Cheeks led his team with four catches totaling 94 yards.
Overall, the game marked a significant turnaround for Portland State, snapping a recent two-game losing streak and enabling them to end their season with a more favorable note.
