ALBANY, N.Y. — In an exciting season finale, Albany triumphed over Hampton with a score of 41-34, highlighted by a remarkable 24-point fourth quarter. Jojo Uga’s 2-yard touchdown run ultimately secured the victory for Albany.
The turning point came when Jack Iuliano recovered a fumble by Malcom May at the Hampton 24-yard line. While it took ten plays for Albany to push through, Uga’s crucial touchdown gave them the final lead of the game.
Hampton, which ended the season with a 5-7 record overall and 2-6 in the Coastal Athletic Association, saw Malcolm Mays score on a 25-yard run. However, their point after touchdown (PAT) was blocked, allowing Kevon Angry to return it for Albany. This left Hampton with a temporary 34-27 lead with just ten minutes left on the clock before Alex Jreige made a stunning 53-yard run to tie the game.
Earlier in the game, Hampton had established a commanding lead of 28-0. With just a couple of minutes remaining in the first half, Van Weber connected with Carter Moses for a 12-yard touchdown pass, providing Albany some momentum. The Great Danes continued to push in the third quarter, adding ten more points, which included a 38-yard touchdown catch by Jackson Parker.
In the early fourth quarter, Nick Totten made a decisive play with a pick-six that brought Albany within 28-25, setting the stage for an electrifying finish. Weber completed 184 passing yards, contributing two touchdowns despite one interception, while Jreige led the ground game with 110 rushing yards.
