STONY BROOK, N.Y. — In an exhilarating clash, Derek Robertson shattered the school record by passing for an impressive 536 yards along with three touchdown throws, leading Monmouth to a thrilling 55-47 win over Stony Brook on Saturday.

Robertson, who connected on 28 of his 45 attempts, showcased his skills with touchdown passes that included a 3-yarder to Marcus Middleton, a 51-yarder to Tra Neal, and a 42-yarder to Max James.

Wide receiver Tra Neal also made a significant contribution, stepping in to throw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Jack Neri, which solidified a 55-44 lead for the Hawks (6-6, 4-4 in the Coastal Athletic Association) during the fourth quarter. Although the extra point attempt was blocked, it still left Stony Brook trailing by 11 points.

Stony Brook, ranked 20 in the FCS, faced a 42-30 deficit at halftime, but fought back to narrow the score to 49-44 with a 23-yard touchdown connection from Jasiah Williams to Dez Williams, executed through a wide-receiver pass.

On the other side, Tyler Knoop led Stony Brook with a strong performance, throwing for 408 yards on 37 completions out of 53 attempts, along with three touchdown passes, despite one interception. Dez Williams was a standout receiver with 134 yards and two touchdowns, while Jayce Freeman contributed with 93 receiving yards.

Monmouth’s TJ Speight also impressed with 151 yards receiving, adding to the high-octane nature of the game.

In total, both teams combined for a staggering 1,007 passing yards and 1,249 offensive yards, showcasing a remarkable display of offensive talent and determination throughout the match.
