ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Donovan Dent was a standout performer for New Mexico, contributing 22 points in their decisive 80-58 victory over Grambling on Thursday.
Dent also showcased his playmaking abilities with eight assists, complementing his scoring efforts. The Lobos, who improved to a 4-1 record with this win, saw additional help from Tru Washington, who netted 15 points and recorded five steals. Mustapha Amzil also played a part, scoring 10 points, demonstrating efficiency at the free-throw line with three made out of six attempts, and hitting one of his four attempts from beyond the arc.
On the other side, the Tigers, now 1-3 for the season, were led by P.J. Eason, who had a solid all-around game with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals. PJ Edwards contributed with eight points, while Antwan Barnett finished with seven points, seven boards, and three steals.
New Mexico gained control of the game with just under eight minutes left in the first half and maintained that lead throughout. By halftime, they held a narrow 30-26 edge. In the second half, the Lobos found their momentum, executing a dominant 19-2 run that extended their lead to 21 points and firmly put the game out of reach for Grambling.
