BOSTON — Joonas Korpisalo made 21 saves, and Elias Lindholm netted the only goal of the match as the Boston Bruins secured a 1-0 victory over the Utah Hockey Club on Thursday night. This game marked the Bruins’ first outing following the dismissal of coach Jim Montgomery, with Joe Sacco taking over as the interim head coach.

The victory ended a three-game losing streak for Boston, while Utah has now faced defeat in three consecutive matches. Karel Vejmelka performed admirably for Utah, stopping 30 shots throughout the contest.

The Bruins struggled initially with their power play, failing to capitalize on their first four chances. However, they finally broke through on their fifth opportunity when Lindholm converted a rebound, earning his third goal of the season at 7:19 in the second period.

Boston believed they had secured a larger lead when David Pastrnak found the back of the net with just 58.8 seconds left in the game. Unfortunately for them, the goal was nullified after a video review determined infringing play occurred.

Key insights from the match showed that Utah, on their opening game of a four-game road trip, struggled on the power play, going 0 for 4, with their last chance occurring just over six minutes before the end of regulation.

The Bruins’ crowd showed their displeasure early in the game, booing the team after they failed to score on any of their three power-play opportunities in the opening period. This win also marked Sacco’s first victory as a head coach since his tenure with the Colorado Avalanche in 2014.

A pivotal moment in the game came when Lindholm scored, following a play initiated by Pastrnak, who passed to Brad Marchand in front of the net, setting up Lindholm perfectly for the rebound. Both Pastrnak and Marchand were credited with assists on the goal.

In terms of penalties, both teams lived up to their reputations as the NHL’s two most penalized squads. Ranked first in penalty minutes, Boston committed four penalties during the match. Utah, holding the second spot in penalty minutes, faced three penalties in the first period and finished with seven overall.

Looking ahead, Utah will travel to Pittsburgh for their next match on Saturday, while Boston will make their way to Detroit on the same day.
