DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In a thrilling matchup on Thursday night, Jao Ituka made a significant impact off the bench, contributing 18 points to help Jacksonville State secure an 86-78 victory over East Carolina. The Gamecocks improved their record to 4-1 with this win.
Ituka showcased his scoring ability by making 5 of 10 attempts from the field, including 2 of 6 from beyond the arc, and was efficient from the free-throw line where he hit 6 of 8 attempts. Alongside him, Jaron Pierre Jr. contributed 16 points, going 4 for 10 from the field and successfully converting 7 of 11 free throw opportunities. He also recorded six rebounds and six assists in a solid performance. Michael Houge was another key player for Jacksonville State, scoring 15 points with a shooting accuracy of 6 of 11 and perfectly sinking all three of his free throw attempts.
For the Pirates, who also held a 4-1 record, RJ Felton led the scoring with 20 points, in addition to grabbing seven rebounds and blocking three shots. C.J. Walker matched Felton’s scoring output, also netting 20 points while securing seven rebounds. Yann Farell added to the effort with 12 points.
In the first half, Ituka managed to score 10 points, helping Jacksonville State keep the score competitive as they trailed East Carolina by just two points at halftime, 39-37. However, the Gamecocks shifted momentum in the second half, executing a dominant 13-2 run that propelled them to a 71-66 lead with only 3:52 left on the clock. Houge played a crucial role during this period, scoring 12 points after the break.
