BATON ROUGE, La. — In an exciting matchup, Flau’Jae Johnson delivered an impressive performance with 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Aneesah Morrow contributed 23 points and 16 rebounds, leading No. 7 LSU to a hard-fought 85-74 victory over Tulane on Wednesday night.
Jersey Wolfenbarger added significant support off the bench for the Tigers (6-0), finishing with 15 points and eight rebounds. On the opposing side, Tulane (1-3) was propelled by Kyren Whittington, who scored 20 of her 24 points in the second half, and Victoria Keenan, who made all 21 of her points during that same period.
**Game Highlights**
Despite trailing by as much as 23 points late in the third quarter, Tulane mounted a commendable comeback, holding LSU to just three field goals in the final quarter and outscoring them 19-10. The Green Wave managed to reduce the deficit to seven points twice within the last three minutes of the game.
For LSU, there has been a continuous search for a solid inside presence to complement Morrow’s contributions. Jersey Wolfenbarger, transitioning from a perimeter-focused role with Arkansas, has begun to show her versatility by playing inside and scoring in double figures for three out of the last four games, thanks to head coach Kim Mulkey’s strategic adjustments.
**Turning Point**
Mulkey aggressively recruited four guards during the off-season to strengthen the team’s capacity for full-court pressing and to maximize points through fast breaks. A notable stretch in the third quarter featured nine consecutive points from fast-break layups and a free throw, which escalated LSU’s lead from 11 to 20 points in just over a minute.
**Noteworthy Statistic**
Keenan, who joined Tulane this season under first-year coach Ashley Langford after transferring from Stony Brook, showcased her shooting skills by hitting 7 of 8 three-pointers in the first half. However, she struggled in the second half, missing all three of her attempts after Johnson was assigned to guard her.
**Looking Ahead**
Tulane will return home on Sunday to face Jackson State, while LSU is set to head to Nassau, Bahamas for the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo championship. The Tigers will kick off the tournament on Monday against Washington.
