A man from Florida was apprehended on Wednesday and now faces charges related to a plan to bomb the New York Stock Exchange this week, according to the FBI.
Harun Abdul-Malik Yener, a 30-year-old resident of Coral Springs, Florida, has been charged with attempting to utilize an explosive device with the intent to harm or destroy a structure involved in interstate commerce.
The FBI’s investigation into Yener began in February following a tip-off that he was allegedly keeping “bomb-making schematics” in a storage facility. Authorities later discovered bomb-making plans, numerous watches fitted with timers, electronic circuit boards, and various other devices that could assist in constructing explosive materials. Evidence also showed that Yener had been searching the internet for bomb-making information since 2017.
During interactions with undercover FBI agents, Yener expressed his intention to detonate an explosive device during the week preceding Thanksgiving, specifically targeting the renowned stock exchange located in Lower Manhattan.
Yener made his initial court appearance on Wednesday afternoon and is set to remain in custody as he awaits trial.
The details of the incident were first reported by CourtWatch.
Attempts to reach the phone numbers associated with Harun Abdul-Malik Yener in public records went unanswered, and there was no lawyer listed for him in the court documents.
