OXFORD, Ohio — In an impressive performance on Tuesday night, Javon Tracy achieved 79 receiving yards on six catches and delivered a standout 30-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Virgil, contributing to Miami (OH)’s victory over Northern Illinois with a score of 20-9.
Virgil had a notable game as well, tallying four receptions for a remarkable 107 yards. Miami, now boasting a record of 7-4 overall and 6-1 within the Mid-American Conference, has accomplished an impressive six consecutive wins.
The Redhawks kicked off the scoring with Dylan Downing’s 2-yard touchdown run, putting them ahead 7-0 with just 2:31 remaining in the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, Dom Dzioban extended their lead with a successful 22-yard field goal. Tracy’s innovative play called for a jet sweep to the right side, culminating in a perfectly pitched pass to Virgil in the end zone, increasing the margin to 17-0, with 3:50 left before halftime.
Northern Illinois, sporting a record of 6-5 and 3-4 in the conference, finally got on the board when Kanon Woodill booted a 47-yard field goal just four seconds before halftime. The game’s momentum shifted further in the fourth quarter when Telly Johnson Jr. rushed for a 2-yard touchdown, trimming the deficit to 17-9, although a subsequent attempt for a two-point conversion was unsuccessful.
