South Carolina’s Staley addresses inquiry regarding injured Johnson by seeking direct information

COLUMBIA, S.C. – When asked about the availability of injured guard Tessa Johnson for the upcoming game against Clemson, South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley went directly to the player for clarification.
Staley turned her attention to Johnson, who is a sophomore on the team, and asked, “Tessa, what’s your status for tomorrow?”
To the delight of her coach and the media present, Johnson responded enthusiastically, “I’m playing.”
Staley, pleased with the answer, turned back to the reporters, smiled, and said, “There you go.”

Johnson has been sidelined for the past two games due to an ankle injury that she sustained during a recent match against then-No. 9 N.C. State on November 10.
Before her injury, Johnson made a significant impact in the season opener, contributing 15 points to the Gamecocks’ triumphant 68-62 win over Michigan on November 4.
Hailing from Albertville, Minnesota, the 6-foot guard was a standout performer in the NCAA Tournament championship game last April, leading her team with 19 points in their 87-75 victory against Iowa.

This upcoming game against Clemson is highly anticipated as both teams look to solidify their positions early in the season. With Johnson’s return, the Gamecocks are looking to leverage her skills on the court to achieve a strong performance.
Coach Staley’s confidence in her players and her hands-on approach in dealing with injury updates demonstrate her commitment to building a resilient team capable of competing at a high level.
It seems that Johnson’s positive attitude and readiness to contribute will enhance the Gamecocks’ chances as they head into this challenging matchup.
