Universal Orlando’s upcoming Harry Potter attraction to feature the British Ministry of Magic as its backdrop

ORLANDO, Fla. — Enthusiastic fans of the Harry Potter franchise are buzzing with excitement about the announcement of a new attraction at Universal Orlando Resort. The upcoming ride, titled “Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry,” is set to open its doors on May 22 as an integral feature of Universal’s newly established fourth theme park, Universal Epic Universe. This latest addition will not only spotlight the British Ministry of Magic as its main theme, but it will also include several other immersive areas inspired by popular franchises such as Super Nintendo, “How to Train Your Dragon,” and classic monster movies.

In contrast to the existing two Harry Potter attractions that have showcased the iconic Hogwarts castle and Gringotts Wizarding Bank, the newest ride promises to take guests on an adventure through the halls of the often off-limits wizarding government establishment. The experience begins in a grand atrium, where guests will have the opportunity to explore the office of Dolores Umbridge, a notorious figure portrayed by Imelda Staunton in the movies. Following their exploration, visitors will board a unique omnidirectional lift that simulates an exciting chase sequence to pursue Umbridge, enriching the attraction’s narrative and thrill factor.

In addition to the main ride, the latest Harry Potter experience will include a live performance inspired by the “Fantastic Beasts” series, as well as areas for dining and shopping. This offers fans an even broader experience within the magical universe. Meanwhile, as Universal looks to expand its offerings in the Orlando market, its primary competitor, Walt Disney World, is also poised for growth. Disney representatives have hinted at plans to invest as much as $17 billion toward enhancements at their Florida resort, with discussions around the introduction of a fifth theme park.
