A man, sought in West Virginia on a federal firearms charge, was killed during a standoff at a motel in Ohio, an incident that also resulted in an officer being injured, according to law enforcement officials.

The individual, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was located at a Jackson Township motel by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force as reported by the U.S. Marshals Service. Shortly after noon on a Monday, officers confronted the suspect, who reportedly brandished a firearm and then barricaded himself within a motel room.

Upon witnessing the weapon, the task force temporarily retreated, leading to the eventual arrival of the Canton Regional SWAT Team. During the standoff, the suspect discharged several rounds, and a North Canton police officer, who is a member of the SWAT team, suffered a gunshot wound to the arm. Fortunately, he is expected to make a complete recovery following surgery.

The suspect, believed to have been alone in the room, ultimately sustained gunshot wounds from responding officers and was pronounced dead at the scene. Upon searching the motel room, authorities reported finding two firearms and numerous bullet casings.

Details surrounding the initial federal weapons charge remain unclear, as the marshals’ office did not immediately provide additional information. Authorities confirmed that no other individuals were harmed during the standoff.
