Lauren Hemp of England and Man City sidelined for US friendly following knee operation

LONDON — Lauren Hemp, a forward for the England national team, has undergone knee surgery, according to an announcement by her club, Manchester City, on Tuesday. This procedure will unfortunately prevent her from participating in the upcoming match against the United States, which is set to take place at Wembley Stadium.

Manchester City confirmed the surgery was a success; however, they did not disclose specific details regarding the injury or an estimated timeline for Hemp’s recovery. The 24-year-old player was omitted from the England squad announced on Tuesday, which is scheduled to compete in friendly matches against the U.S. on November 30 and Switzerland, the host of the 2025 European Championship, three days later at the home stadium of Sheffield United. England will be defending its European title next year.

Over the weekend, Manchester City played without Hemp and suffered a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, which also resulted in the loss of their lead in the English league standings.

Additionally, Manchester City has three Women’s Champions League matches lined up over the next month, including a challenging encounter against the titleholder, Barcelona, on December 18. Earlier this season, City began their group stage by defeating Barcelona 2-0 in October and currently holds the top position in the group following three consecutive victories.
