WARSAW, Poland — The foreign ministers of Poland, Germany, France, and Italy are convening to discuss enhancing Europe’s military assistance to Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia. Additionally, they will address future relations with the United States following Donald Trump’s re-election as president.
Trump has indicated that he anticipates a stronger commitment from European nations towards their own defense, particularly given the current situation in Ukraine, which has been heavily affected by Russian aggression.
In a meeting held in Warsaw on Tuesday, key attendees include Annalena Baerbock from Germany, Jean-Noel Barrot from France, Antonio Tajani from Italy, and Poland’s Radek Sikorski. The foreign ministers from the United Kingdom and Spain are participating in the discussions remotely.
Also in attendance is Kaja Kallas, who will soon take on the role of chief diplomat for the European Union. The host, Sikorski, noted that the meeting was convened in response to Russia’s escalating missile attacks on Ukraine and the implications that Trump’s election victory could have on transatlantic relations moving forward.
