EUGENE, Ore. — Peyton Scott was instrumental in leading No. 23 Oregon to a solid 70-54 victory against Grand Canyon on Monday night, securing the Ducks’ fifth consecutive win at home.
Oregon’s fast start to the season marks the fifth time in coach Kelly Graves’ eleven years that the team has achieved five straight wins.
The game began with Trinity San Antonio’s layup at the 8:10 mark in the first quarter, giving Grand Canyon a brief 4-2 advantage. However, Oregon quickly equalized through Sofia Bell’s free throws, followed by Scott’s impressive back-to-back three-pointers. As the clock wound down in the first quarter, Nani Falatea joined the scoring spree by sinking two 3-pointers herself. This surge allowed Oregon to end the first quarter with a commanding 22-10 lead, and they extended their advantage to 36-18 by halftime.
Scott concluded the game leading the Oregon scoring efforts, making 6 of 13 shots, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. Amina Muhammad also made a significant impact, achieving a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Falatea contributed nine points from the bench.
For Grand Canyon (2-2), San Antonio was the standout performer with 18 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Tiarra Brown added another 12 points, pulling down five rebounds and assisting three times, while Alyssa Durazo-Frescas contributed 11 points along with five rebounds.
Oregon is set to continue its homestand on Wednesday when they face undefeated Auburn, who currently holds a record of 3-0.
