RALEIGH, N.C. — NC State achieved a strong victory against Colgate with a score of 72-49 on Monday night, driven by impressive performances from Ben Middlebrooks and Marcus Hill. Off the bench, Middlebrooks contributed 19 points, while Hill tallied 17 points in the match.
Middlebrooks displayed an efficient shooting performance, hitting 5 of his 8 attempts from the field and successfully making all 9 of his free throw attempts for the Wolfpack (now 4-0). Hill also showcased his skills, connecting on 6 of 10 shots while converting 5 of 6 at the charity stripe.
Huntley-Hatfield joined the scoring with 11 points, and Styles stood out on the boards with 11 rebounds alongside 7 points of his own. On the Colgate side, ten players managed to score, with Nicolas Louis-Jacques leading the effort with 9 points.
The Raiders (1-3) initially took a 6-2 lead thanks to Jalen Cox’s jumper, but NC State quickly turned the tide. Huntley-Hatfield kicked off a decisive 17-0 scoring run, capped off by a three-point play and a layup from Hill, extending the lead to 19-6. From that point on, the Raiders struggled to make a comeback.
At halftime, Middlebrooks and Huntley-Hatfield each had contributed 8 points, while Hill added 7, allowing NC State to lead 40-22 as they headed to the locker room.
Overall, NC State recorded a shooting percentage of 44.4% from the field but struggled with their three-point shooting, making only 3 out of 14 attempts for a 21.4% rate. They excelled at the free-throw line, hitting 21 of their 26 attempts for an 80.8% success rate.
Colgate, meanwhile, managed to shoot 33.3% overall and had difficulty from beyond the arc, missing 21 out of 26 three-point attempts. Their performance at the free-throw line was less impressive as they made just 2 of 5 attempts.
