Italy has made its way back to the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup following a thrilling 2-1 victory over Poland on Monday in Malaga.
The deciding doubles match saw the Italian duo of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini triumph over Poland’s top players, Iga Swiatek and Katarzyna Kawa, with a close score of 7-5, 7-5.
Earlier in the competition, Lucia Bronzetti set the tone for Italy by securing a win against Magda Linette, finishing with scores of 6-4, 7-6 (3).
However, Poland quickly responded as Swiatek battled back to level the semifinal. She overcame Paolini in a hard-fought match, coming back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
This appearance marks Italy’s return to the finals after they finished as runners-up against Canada in the previous year’s edition of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the other semifinal clash is scheduled for Tuesday, featuring Britain against Slovakia.
