In a thrilling matchup on Sunday night, the Denver Pioneers secured a narrow victory over the Montana State Bobcats with a score of 79-78, thanks to a strong performance from Nicholas Shogbonyo, who recorded 15 points.
Shogbonyo played a crucial role in the closing moments of the game, hitting two important free throws with just nine seconds remaining, which helped Denver establish a three-point cushion. The Bobcats managed to score in the final seconds of play, with Sam Lecholat completing a tip-in just as the buzzer sounded.
Alongside Shogbonyo’s scoring, he also contributed significantly on the boards, grabbing seven rebounds for the Pioneers, who now hold a record of 3-2. DeAndre Craig supported the team’s efforts by adding 14 points, shooting effectively at 4 of 9 from the field, while also going a perfect 5 for 5 from the free-throw line. Isaiah Addo-Ankrah was instrumental as well, finishing with 12 points, including a flawless 7 for 7 performance from the charity stripe.
On the other side, the Bobcats had standout performances from their players. Brandon Walker led Montana State with an impressive double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Bryce Zephir made his mark with 14 points and three steals, while Jabe Mullins contributed 12 points along with three steals of his own, but the effort fell just short as the team now sits at 1-3 for the season.
