BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — In an exciting matchup on Sunday, Rylan Jones played a pivotal role in Samford’s 97-82 victory over Texas Southern, scoring a total of 18 points.
Additionally, Jones showcased his playmaking ability with eight assists, guiding the Bulldogs to improve their record to 4-1 for the season.
Riley Allenspach also had an impressive performance, contributing 15 points after making six of his nine attempts from the field, including a perfect three-for-three from three-point range.
Jaden Brownell added to the scoring effort with 10 points, shooting four-for-six overall, with two successful three-pointers out of four tries.
On the opposing side, Duane Posey emerged as the standout player for the Tigers, who fell to 0-4.
He led his team with 26 points, in addition to pulling down 12 rebounds and making two steals.
Kenny Hunter supported Posey’s efforts with a double-double, finishing the game with 14 points and 10 rebounds, along with two blocks.
Zaire Hayes also contributed to the Tigers’ efforts, scoring 12 points and dishing out four assists.
This matchup highlighted the offensive capabilities of both teams, but ultimately, it was Samford who walked away with the win, further establishing their progress early in the season.
