SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers faced a setback in their matchup against the Seattle Seahawks as tight end George Kittle was unable to play due to a hamstring injury.
Kittle, who sustained the injury during the team’s previous victory against Tampa Bay, initially had hopes of returning quickly, but his situation took a turn. He sat out the practice on Wednesday and was limited on the following days, leading to the decision to keep him sidelined for Sunday’s game.
Despite Kittle’s absence, the 49ers managed to have two key players active for the contest. Defensive end Nick Bosa, who has been dealing with a hip issue, and left tackle Trent Williams, who has an ankle injury, both received clearance to start.
Missing Kittle is a significant blow for San Francisco. The standout tight end has been pivotal for the team this season, leading with 43 receptions for 560 yards and seven touchdowns. Notably, he has scored all his touchdowns in the red zone, accounting for seven of the team’s total red zone passing touchdowns.
In addition to Kittle, several other players were declared inactive, including cornerback Charvarius Ward due to personal reasons, defensive tackle Kevin Givens with a groin injury, along with receiver Ronnie Bell, offensive lineman Ben Bartch, and defensive lineman Khalil Davis. The team named Joshua Dobbs as the emergency third-string quarterback for the game.
