LEXINGTON, Ky. — Georgia Amoore contributed significantly with 19 points, while Teonni Key achieved a personal best of 17 points as the No. 20 University of Kentucky triumphed over No. 18 University of Louisville with a score of 71-61 in overtime on Saturday night. This victory marked Kentucky’s first win against their rival since 2015, breaking a seven-game losing streak in the series.
Kentucky displayed an efficient offensive strategy, making 7 of 13 shots in the overtime period and outscoring Louisville by a margin of 16-3 in that crucial timeframe.
A tense regulation saw Louisville’s Merissah Russell executing a layup to equalize the score at 58 with merely 26 seconds remaining. However, Kentucky’s Ja’Leah Williams thwarted Amoore’s attempt at a three-pointer right before the final buzzer, leading to the additional period.
Amoore finished the game with a shooting percentage of 7 of 17, sinking three shots from beyond the arc and providing nine assists to her teammates. Key made an impact by shooting 7 of 12 and securing nine rebounds.
