GREENVILLE, N.C. — In an intense college basketball match, RJ Felton led the East Carolina Pirates to a thrilling 78-77 victory over the George Mason Patriots in double overtime on Saturday evening.
Felton delivered a standout performance, scoring 27 points, and contributing eight rebounds alongside four steals for the Pirates, who improved their season record to 4-0. Joran Riley also made a significant contribution with 15 points, shooting 6 of 15 from the floor, and he secured 10 rebounds as well. C.J. Walker rounded out the scoring for East Carolina with 12 points, although he struggled from behind the arc, finishing 0 for 4 from three-point territory and shooting 6 of 10 from the charity stripe.
On the other side, Darius Maddox was the standout for the Patriots, scoring 20 points. Brayden O’Connor also had a noteworthy performance with 14 points, while Giovanni Emejuru added 12 points, complemented by nine rebounds and three steals.
East Carolina took a slight lead into halftime, holding a 35-31 advantage. In the second half, Jayshayne Woodard took charge for the Pirates with eight points. The pivotal moment came when Felton scored a driving layup with just 10 seconds left in regulation, tying the game and pushing it into overtime.
This close contest showcased the skill and determination of both teams, culminating in an exciting finish for the Pirates as they celebrated their fourth consecutive victory of the season.
