CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — In a thrilling matchup, Joshua Carter carried the football 26 times, earning 106 yards and scoring two touchdowns, which included a game-winning 23-yard touchdown run in overtime. Eastern Kentucky triumphed over Austin Peay with a final score of 30-27, marking the Colonels’ fourth win in a row.
With just 13 minutes remaining in regulation, Matt Morrissey connected on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Calwise Jr. He then capped off a nine-play, 43-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run, equalizing the game at 21-21 with just 13 seconds to spare, thus pushing the game into overtime.
During the overtime session, Carson Smith successfully kicked a 23-yard field goal on Austin Peay’s opening drive, putting the Governors ahead 24-21. However, just two plays later, Carter surged through defenders, securing the game-winning touchdown, marking his third consecutive game with a crucial score.
Prior to this win, Carter had contributed a 3-yard touchdown run in last week’s 41-34 victory against Central Arkansas. Additionally, he provided a 23-yard touchdown run during a close 17-13 win over Tarleton State on November 2, with only 2:26 remaining on the clock.
The scoring began with Smith hitting a 31-yard field goal. Following a fumble on the subsequent kickoff by the Colonels, Austin Smith led the Governors with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Head, quickly establishing a 10-0 lead with 7:15 left in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Jaden Barnes made an impressive 60-yard catch-and-run touchdown, and Romon Copeland Jr. added to the tally with a 1-yard touchdown run, giving Austin Peay a commanding 24-7 lead by halftime.
Barnes stood out for the Governors, finishing the game with eight receptions for a total of 131 yards.
