CULLOWHEE, N.C. — In an exciting matchup, Taron Dickens led his team to victory by throwing for two touchdowns as Western Carolina dominated VMI with a score of 58-28 on Saturday.

The Catamounts, who hold a record of 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the Southern Conference, found themselves trailing at 7-6. However, they turned the game around in a powerful second quarter, scoring a remarkable five touchdowns. This impressive surge included a touchdown that followed a fumble recovery during a kickoff and another notable score from Ken Moore Jr., who returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown.

VMI attempted to mount a comeback and narrowed the gap to 44-21 when JoJo Crump connected with Destin Moore on a 40-yard touchdown pass. Nonetheless, Western Carolina wasn’t finished. They quickly answered with two more touchdowns, one of which came from Patrick Boyd Jr. with a 28-yard rushing touchdown that reestablished a commanding 37-point lead for the Catamounts.

Dickens finished the game with an impressive performance, completing 30 of 37 passes for a total of 294 yards. On the other side, VMI’s Hunter Rice put in a solid effort, rushing for 109 yards and scoring two touchdowns, while Crump threw for 138 yards. Unfortunately for VMI, quarterback Chandler Wilson struggled, throwing three interceptions during the contest.
