Ithaca, N.Y. — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, Cornell managed to secure an 81-71 victory over Lafayette, with standout performances from several players.
Guy Ragland Jr. led the Big Red with 16 points, showing his versatility by also grabbing 10 rebounds. His contribution was vital in keeping his team ahead throughout the game.
Jake Fiegen made a significant impact as well, scoring 15 points with an impressive shooting performance, going 5 for 6 overall and nailing 3 out of 4 attempts from three-point range. In addition, AK Okereke added 14 points to the scoreboard, shooting 4 of 8 from the field and succeeding in 5 of his 6 free-throw attempts.
On the opposing side, Caleb Williams was the top scorer for the Leopards, putting up 15 points in the effort. Mark Butler also contributed with 13 points, while Devin Hines rounded out the scoring for Lafayette by adding 11 points and pulling down seven rebounds.
The game was tightly contested in the first half, with Cornell heading into the locker room with a narrow 33-31 lead, where Fiegen was the high scorer for his team with five points. The turning point came early in the second half when Ragland connected on a three-pointer just 1 minute and 4 seconds in, giving Cornell a permanent lead at 36-33.
This victory brought Cornell’s record to 3-1 for the season, as they look to build on this momentum in upcoming games.
