DURHAM, N.C. — J’Mari Taylor showcased an impressive performance with 206 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Walker Harris contributed 321 passing yards and an additional touchdown, leading North Carolina Central to a decisive 26-3 win against Howard on Friday night.
N.C. Central has dominated the rivalry, securing victory in 11 of the last 12 matchups, although Howard broke a long drought by winning last season for the first time since 1994.
For much of the first half, N.C. Central found itself at a disadvantage, trailing until an 11-play, 71-yard drive culminated in a 12-yard touchdown reception by Chris Mosley with just 23 seconds remaining. The Eagles then erupted for 20 consecutive points in the second half.
Taylor displayed remarkable speed and agility with touchdown runs measuring 61, 18, and 40 yards. Overall, N.C. Central amassed a staggering 563 total yards, greatly overshadowing Howard’s mere 113 yards. The Bison struggled significantly on third down, failing to convert on all 12 attempts and managing only nine first downs throughout the game.
In terms of individual statistics, Walker Harris completed 20 of 35 passes with one interception, while J’Mari Taylor consistently advanced the ball with 24 carries. N.C. Central improved to 7-3 overall and stands at 3-1 in the MEAC as they prepare to face Delaware State, who has only one win to their name, on November 23.
For Howard, Ja’Shawn Scroggins finished the night completing 11 of 26 passes for 75 yards, unable to find his rhythm against the formidable N.C. Central defense.
