HOUSTON — In a game against the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers player James Harden has now tied Ray Allen for second place on the all-time NBA career 3-pointers made list. As of Friday night, Harden’s total sits at 2,973, still trailing Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, who had 3,779 at the start of the game.
Entering this matchup, Harden was just three 3-pointers shy of tying Allen, a Hall of Famer who had a remarkable 18-season career. In the opening quarter, Harden successfully shot 3 out of 6 attempts, bringing him even with Allen. However, he struggled to find the net subsequently, missing three more 3-point attempts throughout the game and did not take the court in the fourth quarter as the Rockets held a commanding 19-point lead.
This milestone for Harden comes in Houston, a city where he made his mark during his nine-year tenure with the Rockets. The 35-year-old was honored as the league’s MVP for the 2017-18 season and participated in eight All-Star games during his time in Houston before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets in 2021.
The majority of Harden’s 3-pointers, totaling 2,029, were made while he played for the Rockets. During his first three years in the NBA with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he added 320 more to his tally. His time with the Philadelphia 76ers contributed 207 3-pointers, while he recorded 198 in his stints with the Nets.
Having made 219 3-pointers for the Clippers, Harden is in the early stages of his second season with the team, continuing to build on his impressive career long after he first dazzled fans in Houston.
