Democratic Representative Jared Golden has successfully secured reelection for his U.S. House seat that serves the state of Maine.
On Friday, the announcement of his victory came as a significant moment for the party, as Golden is among the very few Democratic representatives holding a district that was won by Republican Donald Trump during the 2020 presidential election.
This makes his position in northern Maine a focal point for Republican contenders aiming to reclaim the district.
In this election, Golden faced off against Republican candidate Austin Theriault, who has a background in NASCAR racing and currently represents Fort Kent in the state House.
The declaration of Golden’s victory was made at 8:50 p.m. EST, marking an important win for Democrats in a traditionally competitive area.
