NEW YORK — On Friday, a commercial branch of the Major League Baseball Players Association reached a conclusion in its legal dispute with FanDuel concerning the claimed unlawful use of Major League Baseball (MLB) players’ names and likenesses on its gambling platform.
According to the settlement details, MLB Players Inc. and FanDuel have decided to voluntarily dismiss the lawsuit with a ruling of prejudice, which prevents the case from being refiled in the future.
Court documents indicate that both the association and the sportsbook will be responsible for covering their own legal fees and associated costs incurred throughout this case.
Additionally, FanDuel has been excised from the New York lawsuit, which originally included Underdog Sports as well. It remains unclear if Underdog Sports has also resolved its legal issues. The MLB Players Association is currently pursuing other legal actions against various online betting platforms.
