DALLAS — Evgenii Dadonov made a significant impact by scoring two goals, including the first successful penalty shot of the NHL season, propelling the Dallas Stars to a decisive 7-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.
Matt Duchene, Roope Hintz, Mason Marchment, and rookies Logan Stankoven and Oskar Back also contributed to the Stars’ winning effort, maintaining their offensive momentum following an impressive 7-1 win against Pittsburgh just a few days prior.
Dadonov opened the scoring for Dallas with a penalty shot at 6:36 of the first period after being hindered by Mason Lohrei on a breakaway. Notably, prior to this shot, five attempts for penalty shots in the NHL had ended without a goal.
For the Bruins, Charlie Coyle and David Pastrnak managed to find the net, as the team concluded a Central Division road trip with a split in their two games.
Dallas goalie Jake Oettinger made 23 saves, while Boston’s Jeremy Swayman recorded 31 stops during the match.
Mason Marchment shined again with a goal and an assist, building on his five-point performance in Pittsburgh. It was also a special moment for Oskar Back, marking his first goal in the NHL along with an assist.
In terms of takeaways, the Bruins continued to struggle with their power play, entering the game tied for the worst in the league at 11.8%, and they were unsuccessful in both of their power-play opportunities.
For the Stars, the trio of Duchene, Marchment, and Tyler Seguin has been particularly effective, combining for five goals and a total of 13 points over the past two games.
A key moment in the game occurred when Stankoven scored off a rebound at 14:15 in the second period, re-establishing a two-goal lead for Dallas. This was quickly followed by Back’s impressive one-handed poke goal less than two minutes later.
An important statistic to note is that the Stars are now 7-0-0 at home, marking a first in the franchise’s long history of 57 seasons, including its former years as the Minnesota North Stars. However, they did face a loss in a designated home game against the Florida Panthers during the Global Series held in Finland earlier in November.
Looking ahead, the Bruins are set to host the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, while the Stars will travel to take on the Minnesota Wild.
