GROS ISLET, St. Lucia — Reece Topley, the English fast bowler, is set to return home after being sidelined for the remaining matches of his team’s Twenty20 series against the West Indies due to a knee injury.
Topley incurred this injury while bowling during the opening match of the five-game series held in Bridgetown, Barbados, on November 9.
This unfortunate incident adds to a string of injuries that have affected the 30-year-old’s international career over the years.
In addition to the injury, Topley has also faced financial repercussions, as he was fined 15 percent of his match fee for causing damage to a chair as he exited the playing field. After receiving medical attention during the match, he returned to the game only to discover that he could not continue.
As he made his way off the field, he became frustrated and struck a chair against an iron handrail while ascending the steps to the England dressing room.
Acknowledging his error, Topley accepted the fine without dispute, negating the need for an official hearing.
At the moment, England holds a 2-0 advantage in the five-match series, with the third game scheduled for Thursday in St. Lucia.
