LOGAN, Utah – In a commanding performance, Ian Martinez scored 24 points as Utah State triumphed over Westminster (UT) with a score of 117-53 on Wednesday evening.
Martinez showcased impressive shooting skills, hitting 7 of 10 shots from the field, with an outstanding 7 for 9 from beyond the arc, and going a perfect 3 for 3 from the free-throw line. The Aggies, now with a record of 3-0, also saw significant contributions from Dexter Akanno, who added 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Karson Templin contributed 16 points, demonstrating accuracy with 6 of 8 success from the field and converting 3 of 5 at the line.
For Westminster, Ryan Rubenskas was a notable player, scoring 12 points while grabbing seven rebounds and registering two blocks. Teammate Parker Christensen also found the net for 12 points while providing six rebounds and seven assists for the Griffins. Additionally, Simom Akena contributed 10 points and four assists to the effort.
The game kicked off with Utah State taking control early, securing the lead with 17:18 remaining in the first half and maintaining dominance throughout. Martinez was particularly effective, scoring 18 points in the opening half alone, which propelled the Aggies to a whopping 65-25 advantage by halftime. In the second half, Akanno stepped up to lead the team again with nine points, solidifying their lead against Westminster.
