STANFORD, Calif. — Nunu Agara delivered a stellar performance, setting career highs with 25 points and 10 rebounds, marking her first double-double as the No. 24 Stanford Cardinal secured a 69-56 victory over UC Davis on Wednesday evening.
The Cardinal (4-0) maintained the lead for most of the game but encountered difficulties in sealing the win against the Aggies (1-2). The only time UC Davis led was at 47-46 during the final minute of the third quarter, and they managed to tie the score at 51 with 8:40 remaining.
Stanford then surged ahead with a 12-point run, with Agara contributing seven points to that surge. Meanwhile, Davis struggled offensively, failing to make four consecutive shots and finishing the game with only 2 out of 9 shooting down the stretch, along with four turnovers.
Courtney Ogden supported the team with 16 points, including a clutch 3-pointer that beat the buzzer at the end of the third quarter, giving Stanford a 49-47 lead. Additionally, Brooke Demetre added 11 points and eight rebounds to the Cardinal’s effort.
For the Aggies, Mazatla Harris led the scoring with 17 points, while Sydney Burns chipped in with 10 points.
In their previous three games, Stanford had been dominant from beyond the arc, averaging 15 three-pointers per game and connecting on 45 of 78 attempts. However, they struggled this time, converting only 5 of 20 attempts from long range. The team also had a remarkable 60 assists versus just 20 turnovers over those earlier matches but now faced 16 turnovers and only nine assists against UC Davis.
In terms of rebounding, Stanford asserted its dominance, out-rebounding Davis 41-24, which included 14 offensive boards, contributing to a significant 13-0 advantage in second-chance points.
