KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Last month, notable break-ins occurred at the residences of Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, and tight end Travis Kelce. These incidents took place just days apart, according to local law enforcement reports.
“Obviously it’s frustrating, disappointing,” Mahomes commented during a practice session on Wednesday.
The burglaries, initially reported by TMZ, unfolded right before and on the day of the Chiefs’ 26-13 triumph over the New Orleans Saints on October 7, with Kelce’s prominent girlfriend, Taylor Swift, in attendance. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident.
One day prior to the Monday night match, law enforcement authorities were summoned to a residence matching Mahomes’ address, which is located in a private, gated community in northwestern Cass County, situated just south of Kansas City. Mahomes indicated that he was unable to disclose further specifics, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. He termed the event as “something you don’t want to happen to anybody and obviously yourself.”
Interestingly, the report from the sheriff’s office, which was obtained, does not mention Mahomes by name. The document, which is a single page, details a call made just after midnight on October 6 regarding what was classified as a burglary, but does not specify any stolen belongings.
Ronnie Lozano, a representative of the sheriff’s department, confirmed via email that the investigation remains active but refrained from answering additional inquiries, including whether any arrests had been made. The county’s prosecutor also did not respond promptly to a request for comments.
On the evening of October 7, around 7:30 p.m., while the Chiefs faced the Saints at Arrowhead Stadium, a break-in occurred at a home that corresponds to Kelce’s address in the upscale suburb of Leawood, Kansas. This incident was reported in the early hours of the following day, as indicated by an offense report obtained from the local police.
Kelce’s name does not appear in the police report, which documented losses amounting to $20,000 in cash along with damage to a rear door. The property spans an impressive 16,000 square feet and boasts features like a wine cellar, a swimming pool, and a six-car garage.
The Leawood Police Department noted that they do not comment on specific crime victims, except in cases involving fatal accidents or homicides, according to police Captain Jason Ahring. Additionally, Melody Webb, a spokesperson from the Johnson County prosecutor’s office, stated via email that they had no comment on the situation.
