In West Palm Beach, Florida, the President-elect, Donald Trump, is set to incorporate four key advisers from his presidential campaign into his upcoming administration as deputy chiefs of staff. This includes two of his trusted aides and the political director instrumental to his successful campaign.
On Wednesday, Trump made it clear that Dan Scavino, a long-time aide, would be appointed as a deputy, although a specific role was not designated. James Blair, who served as the political director for the campaign, will take on the role of deputy for legislative, political, and public affairs. Additionally, Taylor Budowich has been selected as deputy chief of staff overseeing communications and personnel. All of these individuals will hold the title of assistant to the president.
Trump also announced that Stephen Miller, known for his strict stance on immigration, would fill the position of deputy chief of staff for policy, along with serving as an adviser on homeland security. This information had been previously shared by Vice President-elect JD Vance earlier in the week.
Blair played a crucial role as the political director during Trump’s campaign and also worked with the Republican National Committee once Trump became the presumptive nominee. His background includes significant experience working on Trump’s 2020 campaign based in Florida and serving as a senior aide for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Scavino has a history of serving as a senior adviser during the campaign and took on the role of social media director in Trump’s first term in office. His journey with Trump began as a caddy at one of Trump’s golf properties, and he was among the small group of staff members that accompanied the president throughout the extensive campaign trail. His social media presence often includes memes and videos documenting the campaign’s behind-the-scenes moments.
Before contributing to the campaign, Budowich was associated with the pro-Trump Super PAC, Maga Inc., and was part of the political action committee, Save America.
Trump expressed his confidence in his team, stating, “Dan, Stephen, James, and Taylor were ‘best in class’ advisors on my winning campaign, and I know they will honorably serve the American people in the White House. They will continue to work hard to Make America Great Again in their respective new roles.”
Miller has been one of Trump’s longest-serving aides, his association dating back to the initial campaign for the presidency. He held the position of senior adviser during Trump’s first term and has played a significant role in many policy decisions, particularly regarding immigration. He was notably involved in the controversial decision to separate thousands of immigrant families as a deterrent strategy in 2018.
