LOS ANGELES — The anticipation surrounding office conversations has already begun, as John Krasinski has been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for the year 2024.
The announcement was made during a segment on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Tuesday evening.
Krasinski, who initially rose to fame for his role as the quirky Jim Halpert on “The Office,” has successfully transitioned into a diverse acting career, headlining the thriller series “Jack Ryan” and co-creating the acclaimed “A Quiet Place” film series.
In a lighthearted moment, he told the magazine that he looks forward to his wife, actress Emily Blunt, fulfilling her playful promise to adorn their home with a wallpaper made from the magazine cover.
He succeeds Patrick Dempsey, who held the title last year.
At 45 years old, Krasinski shared with People his surprise at receiving the honor, describing his initial response as a “complete blackout” and amusingly questioning whether it might be a prank.
Originally celebrated for his floppy-haired demeanor on “The Office,” he has since transformed into a leading action star, portraying a character made famous by a series of notable actors including Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford on the big screen.
Beyond acting, he co-wrote, directed, and starred in the “A Quiet Place” series, which has become a thriving three-film franchise.
He also launched the beloved online series “Some Good News” during the pandemic.
Earlier this year, Krasinski unveiled his sixth directing project, a movie titled “IF” that explores the theme of imaginary friends, and he collaborated with Blunt once again for this film.
The couple shares two daughters, and Krasinski humorously remarked to People that he suspects this new title might lead to an increase in his responsibilities at home, jokingly stating, “I think it’s going to make me do more household chores.”
Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Sexiest Man Alive title was first awarded to Mel Gibson. Over the years, other notable figures have received this distinction, including the likes of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, John F. Kennedy Jr., Michael B. Jordan, and Dwayne Johnson, among others.
