SYRACUSE, N.Y. — In a thrilling matchup, Eddie Lampkin Jr. shone for Syracuse, contributing 15 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists in the team’s narrow victory over Colgate, winning 74-72 on Tuesday evening.
Lampkin’s decisive layup with just 46 seconds remaining sealed the game for the Orange, while Colgate struggled and missed crucial attempts, including a 3-pointer and a jumper in their final two possessions.
Chris Bell supported the effort with 14 points, while J.J. Starling added 12 before fouling out. For Syracuse (2-0), Elijah Moore and Jyare Davis each contributed eight points, with Davis notable for securing nine rebounds from the team’s total of 45.
Leading the Raiders (1-2), Jalen Cox delivered an impressive performance with 21 points. Chandler Baker followed with 15 points, and both Brady Cummins and Parker Jones chipped in 10 points each.
A critical stretch for Colgate included a 16-4 run, bolstered by 3-pointers from Baker, Cummins, and Cox, which allowed them to narrow the gap to 57-56 with 9:50 left in the game. Syracuse managed to extend its lead to six points on two occasions before Nicolas Louis-Jacques scored five consecutive points to level the score at 72 with 1:19 on the clock.
In the first half, Syracuse only trailed for just over a minute and regained control after Davis hit a 3-pointer with 10:23 remaining in the period.
The game was part of a long-standing rivalry, marking the 176th encounter between the two teams dating back to the 1901-02 season, with Syracuse holding a significant advantage in the series at 129-47. Last year, the Orange ended a two-game losing streak against Colgate by winning 79-75.
