TURIN, Italy – Daniil Medvedev rejuvenated his chances at the ATP Finals with an impressive 6-2, 6-4 win over Alex de Minaur on Tuesday, managing to avoid any break points throughout the match.
This performance stood in stark contrast to his earlier match where he exhibited frustration, breaking his racket after a straight-set loss to Taylor Fritz on Sunday.
Fritz was poised to take on world number one Jannik Sinner later on Tuesday, marking a rematch of their encounter in the final of the U.S. Open.
In this prestigious event, the top two players from each round-robin group will proceed to the semifinals.
De Minaur, participating in this tournament for the first time, has experienced a tough outing and now faces the possibility of elimination after losing both of his opening matches.
In the other match held on Monday, Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud secured wins against Andrey Rublev and Carlos Alcaraz, respectively.
Medvedev, the 2020 finals champion during its last occurrence in London, will be up against Sinner, while de Minaur is scheduled to compete against Fritz on Thursday, concluding the group stages.
