Bayern extends Jan-Christian Dreesen’s contract, reaffirming confidence in CEO.

MUNICH — Bayern Munich has announced a two-year extension of Jan-Christian Dreesen’s contract as the chief executive, which will now run until June 2027.
The club emphasized its commitment to stability in its leadership, noting that the decision to prolong Dreesen’s contract was made unanimously by the supervisory board.

Herbert Hainer, the club president, expressed confidence in Dreesen’s leadership during challenging times. He stated, “Dreesen took over the chairmanship of the board during a difficult phase and quickly led FC Bayern Munich AG back into calmer waters. We want to continue on this path together. We’re certain he is the right person to tackle the challenges ahead together with his board colleagues Michael Diederich and Max Eberl,” as noted in a statement by the club.

This contract extension counters a prevalent narrative from last month suggesting the organization would not retain its previous chief financial officer in his role.

Dreesen, who transitioned from a banking background, joined Bayern in 2013. He quickly ascended to vice-chairman of the supervisory board in 2014 before succeeding Oliver Kahn last year after Kahn, along with sporting director Hasan Salihamidži?, was let go on the same day the club clinched its 11th consecutive Bundesliga title.

During Dreesen’s initial period as the top executive, Bayern Munich did not secure the Bundesliga title for the first time since 2012, with Bayer Leverkusen emerging as champions last season. However, this season has shown positive signs, as Bayern is leading the league by five points after ten matches under the management of new coach Vincent Kompany.

Additionally, the club appointed Christopher Freund as the sporting director and Eberl as the board member responsible for sport. Diederich remains the club’s chief financial officer.

Bayern Munich is set to hold its annual general meeting on December 8, where it is expected to announce another year of record revenue.
